Jadavpur University (JU) has formally decided that students who do not have smartphones will be provided with a datapack as the new semester classes are expected to start from this month. An official gave this information.
The university administration has also decided that online examinations for arts and science subjects will be conducted from October 1 to 10. Vice Chancellor of the University Chiranjeev Bhattacharya said on Sunday that the students of arts, science and engineering courses will soon be provided with smartphones and internet facilities which do not have these facilities.

Bhattacharya said, “We will provide good quality internet access sets to the needy students, which will have the option of sharing, uploading and downloading and such students will be given a three-month recharge.” , He said that after receiving the data of the survey conducted by the students’ union, the total number of such students was being assessed by the university committee.

On Asking , how students who do not have their own smartphones and have slow internet speed can access online classes , said Bhattacharya when classes of Arts and Science subjects started from September 14. For that the authorities are planning to complete this process as soon as possible. Semester classes of engineering are expected to begin on 25 September.

Explaining in detail about online education, he said that classes will be conducted through online platform on Google and lectures and content will be made available through audio and video clips on the university website.

Asked to elaborate on the digital mode of teaching, Bhattacharya same it’ll be done on a virtual platform on Google.Also, audio and video clips of lectures and course contents are uploaded at a secure, protected dedicated section in university portal.The lecturers of the involved department are ready to access the section and share the links of files through pdf with the coed having internet property.The students having internet property can share the contents with those empty the facilities as of currently. Once they too get the facilities, everyone will be able to participate in classes and there will be no digital divide.
