6 new countries offer visa-free travel to Indian travelers : Visa-free travel is the ability to enter a country without first applying for a visa. It provides a hassle-free visit without complicated visa procedures and saves money on visa fees. Several governments have agreements with India that allow Indian citizens to travel to their countries without lengthy visa procedures. As part of regular visa-free travel, you only need a passport to visit countries freely. Generally, most visa-exempt countries only require your passport for customs clearance, but some may require additional documentation, such as proof of onward travel. The latest countries added to the visa-free entry list for Indian tourists are as follows:

1. Iran

Since February 4, Iran has announced visa exception for Indian passport holders, aiming to promote tourism and attract more and more tourists to the country. The move underscores Iran’s commitment to promoting global engagement. Anyone holding an ordinary passport can enter the country visa-free every six months for a maximum stay of 15 days. It is important to note that this 15-day period is not extendable.

2. Malaysia

From December 1, 2023, tourists from India and China can enter Malaysia visa-free and stay in the country for up to 30 days. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, while announcing the development, stressed that the exemptions would be subject to a thorough security review. “There will be preliminary checks on all tourists coming to Malaysia. Security is another matter. If they have a criminal record or pose a terrorism risk, they will not be allowed to enter,” he added.

3. Kenya

Since January 1, Kenya has implemented a visa-free policy for Indian citizens. In fact, Kenya has removed visa requirements for all global visitors, a move expected to boost the country’s vital tourism industry. The aim of the program is to provide tourists with a seamless travel experience on wildlife safaris and beach holidays. In response, President William Ruto said: “No one from anywhere in the world will have to bear the burden of applying for a visa to enter Kenya.”

4. Thailand

Earlier, the Thai government announced that from November 10, 2023 to May 10, 2024, Indian passport holders will be able to enter Thailand without a tourist visa, which made Indian tourists happy. During this period, the Thai authorities implemented a temporary visa-free policy, allowing 30 days of stay for tourism activities.

5. Vietnam

As previously reported, Vietnam has announced that it will provide visa-free entry to Indian and Chinese citizens this year in a bid to boost tourism in the country. Currently, certain European citizens enjoy visa-free status, while others can opt for an e-visa, which is valid for 90 days and allows multiple entries.

6. Sri Lanka

Recently, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Tourism announced that it will allow tourists from seven countries: India, Russia, China, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand to enter the country without a visa. According to reports, this is a pilot project that will last until March 31, 2024.

Apart from visa-free countries, Indian passport holders can also apply for visa on arrival at multiple destinations. According to the latest Henley Passport Index report, the Indian passport is currently ranked 85th with travel to 57 countries. This report is based on data provided by the International Air Travel Authority (IATA).
