Gunjan Saxena: Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl is an upcoming Bollywood Film releasing on August 12, 2020.

The film is a biography based film on the life of Gunjan Saxena directed by Sharan Sharma and produced under Dharma Productions and Zee Studios. The film stars Janhvi Kapoor as Indian Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena, the first Indian female air-force pilot with Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi in supporting roles.

The film was announced on 26 December 2018 when Jhanvi Kapoor shared the first look. The film was shooted across Lucknow. Netflix acquired the rights for releasing the film worldwide. It will stream on 12 August 2020 on Netflix.

Release

The film was scheduled to release in theaters on 13 March, 2020. However, that was postponed due to the COVID-19. Netflix later acquired the releasing rights to the film. On 9 June, 2020 Netflix released a teaser introducing Gunjan Saxena and announcing that the film will be streaming on 12 August, 2020 on Netflix.

About Gunjan Saxena

Gunjan Saxena is an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer and also a former helicopter pilot. She joined IAF in 1994. She is a 1999 Kargil War veteran and the first woman awarded with Shaurya Chakra. She is the first among two women with Srividya Rajan from IAF to enter war zone flying Cheetah helicopters. She is the only woman to be part of the Kargil War. One of her main roles during the Kargil War was to evacuate the wounded, transport supplies, and assisting in surveillance. She evacuated over 900 troops, both injured and dead, from Kargil. In 2004, her career as a helicopter pilot ended after serving as a pilot for seven years. The concept of the permanent commission for women was not there during her time.
